The Dipole Sea
As an Inductive & Capacitive Medium

• An electromagnetic field is composed of electric and magnetic fields oriented at 90° to each other and pointed transverse to the direction of travel of the wave.  

• An Electric field force vector points outward from the direction of travel and produces a force on positive charges that moves that move them outward, and a force on negative charges that move them in the opposite direction.

• The magnetic field has no monopoles, which means that if we put a sphere around the magnet, that we would get just as many North Poles and South Poles penetrating the surface of the sphere.  In the case of an EM wave, the magnetic field is a force vector that affects the magnetic orientation of DPs.  The magnetic field has a limited extent, e.g. a wavelength or half wavelength in the case of a photon or EM wave.  The magnetic field points perpendicular to the E field in the case of an EM wave or photon.  The magnetic field produces a force on all magnetic dipoles (such as the DPs, particles of mass, or gross domains of molecules such as an iron magnet).  

• Space is the medium that carries energy in the form of EM waves.  Energy can transit between various forms such as kinetic energy, mass, Electrical potential fields, magnetic fields, and gravity.   EM waves organize to carry energy from one place where energy has lost its organization to another.  When energy is associated with mass, the loss of that energy can occur as a photon, heat, various forms of potential energy, etc.  When that quantum of lost energy organizes as a photon, it transits through space at the speed of light until absorbed by another mass-associated medium.
