Spectral Line Emission

The photon can be absorbed fully by the orbital and the lose the energy of the activated orbital in several discrete increments; this would be due to the drop from a high energy orbital, down into succeeding more shallow allowable energy levels (this is the phenomenon seen in a the spectral lines of an electrically stimulated gas such as sodium with its characteristic emission lines).
